Leader Dogs for the Blind
The Leader Dog School was founded in 1939 and has grown to be one of the largest and finest dog guide schools in the world. Over 10,000 Leader Dogs have been trained since the founding of the school. The Leader Dog School offers its services through the Lions of all states. Lions have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in the Leader Dog School and have the privilege of offering Leader Dogs to all who are eligible. Any Lions Club member can write in behalf of a blind candidate to obtain an application.

The Leader Dog School is located on 14 acres in Rochester, Michigan. The school has facilities for housing 28 people, four instructors and a housemother. The kennels are staffed by experienced instructors, a kennel manager and assistants. There are kennel facilities for housing 300 large dogs. The Leader Dog puppy program has 450 families raising puppies.

Over 6,600 Leader Dog Graduates (people) have experienced the enhanced mobility and independence of travel through their Leader Dog.
