Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF)
is a public, nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation. The
foundation was incorporated in 1968 as the charitable arm
of Lions Clubs International (LCI).
LCIF's mission is to support the efforts of Lions
clubs around the world in serving their local communities
and the world community through humanitarian service,
major disaster releif and vocational assistance
programs.
LCIF is governed by a board of trustees
comprised of the LCI board of directors plus two
appointed members. The immediate past international
president of LCI always serves as chairman of the
foundation.
Lions clubs and individual members worldwide are
primary contributors to the foundation. Corporations,
foundations and individuals who are not associated with
Lions contribute as well.
LCIF has several gifting plans. Among them is the
Melvin Jones Fellowship program. Named after Melvin
Jones, the founder of Lions International, a Melvin Jones
Fellowship is LCIF highest recognition. It is presented
to individuals who contribute $1000, or to individuals in
whose name a donation of $1000 is made. The Melvin Jones
Fellowship Progressive Program recognizes gifts in
increments of $1000 up to $60,000. Melvin Jones Fellows
receive a plaque and an attractive lapel pin designed to
recognize the current level achieved in the progressive
giving program. (College
