Introduction
Lions Camp Merrick is a project of
Lions District 22-C. When started in 1979, it's set out
to provide Deaf and Hard of Hearing children a summer
residential program that was both educational and fun.
Over the years the camp expanded it's program and now
offers services to blind adults, blind children and
diabetic individuals.
The camp goals are to promote
education, creative expression and social growth in a
manner that will enhance self confidence, social
adjustment and self reliance. Camp activities are
designed to accommodate campers of all age and skill
levels.
The camping facilities, situated on
the Potomac river, are surrounded by 320 acres of
beautiful trees and native wildlife. This home away from
home offers: residential cottages and cabins, onsite
health infirmary, swimming pool with bathhouse,
recreation building, arts and crafts house, nature
education center, basketball court, multi-use sports
field, dining hall, nature trails, challenge course and
river access for water activities.
